Lab
Confidence Interval Capture
A confidence level is a promise about a method, not about one interval. Here you can run the method a hundred times against a population whose true value you know, and count the misses.
Challenges
- At 95% confidence, build 100 intervals several times. How far does the capture rate wander from 95%?
- Raise the confidence level to 99%. What happens to the width of the intervals and to the capture rate?
- Keep 95% confidence and quadruple the sample size. What happens to the margin of error?
- Find an interval that missed. Is there anything wrong with the sample that produced it?
